    Description

1834 – Liberty Cap Quarter – Grade Extra Fine
    Purchased from an eBay Auction
Grading is Subjective, even for the so-called grading companies eBay endorses.
Along with others, my grade for this coin is Extra Fine.
Coin was struck in Philadelphia with a quantity of 286,000.
The coin has been a part of a Type Coin Collection for over 35 years. It is housed in a Dansco Album no. 7070. I am disposing of my coin collection because of my age and family is not interested in coins. The Type Set was built with an eye toward a balance between quality and quantity. The coins of the Type Set are being sold individually.
    - - - Grading Points - - -
    On the
    obverse
, there is wear on the hair above the eye but is still defined. The facial features all show great detail. The drape around the bust is well defined with minor wear and the clasp at the shoulder is worn, but well defined. The cap has great detail and LIBERTY is full and sharp. The curls are full with worn spots on the high points. All of the stars have detail and several have the center. The dentils are full and sharp around the circumference.
    On the
    reverse
, there is wear on high points. The feathers show great detail as do the talons. The arrows and branch are sharp. The shield has both horizontal and vertical details. The dentils are full and sharp around the circumference.
    The
    surfaces
of the coin are clean and show only light marks from circulation. There is light target toning and the surface details are well defined. The coin shows equal to or better than PCGS coin of equal grade selling at 0.
    Scanners
are known for creating non-existing flecks, colors, and marks on coins. There are some flecks around the coin image that do not exist.
A 24-bit color scan was made at 1200 dpi with a gray background – shows more detail.
A 24-bit color scan was made at 1200 dpi with a white background – not too good.
    The lighting was adjusted.
A 16-bit gray-scale scan was made at 1200 dpi with a gray background – shows detail differently. The surfaces show dull, but will show the detail differently.
In the grade, the coin is
    valued
at 0.00 by multiple sources. Price has been reduced below the value of the next lower grade. This is a Great coin for the price!!
