NGC F12
A smooth, choice original mid-circulated, textbook F12 example of this popular variety. The entire date was re-cut, but the best evidence is the widely separated serif on the second 1. It's actually a Large Date over Small Date, and this cool re-punched date has been known for a century as Browning-5. The Cherrypicker’s Guide listed it more recently as RPD FS-301. Regardless of which reference you use, it commands a nice premium when properly recognized, especially when found so choice. The variety is not listed on the slab.
